Everything you need to know about the TCF Canada exam structure, scoring, and preparation strategies
TCF Canada (Test de connaissance du français pour le Canada) is a French proficiency test issued by the French Ministry of Education, designed specifically for Canadian immigration applications. Results are valid for 2 years, and there must be at least 30 days between two exams.
Audio is played only once; the question is read at the end of each recording; widely considered the hardest section
Progressive difficulty; relatively straightforward with ample time
Message/note → article/letter → editorial/essay; pay attention to word count requirements
Self-introduction → role-play → topic discussion; conducted with an examiner
Listening and reading are multiple-choice sections — there is no penalty for incorrect answers. Questions at different CEFR levels carry different point values with weighted scoring, for a maximum of 699 points.

| A1 | 3 | 4 | 12 | 2% |
